We’re excited to share that the final phase of the Shirebrook Market Place: Reimagined project is about to begin — bringing to life the last chapter of a major £2 million investment to transform the heart of Shirebrook’s town centre.

Thanks to funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Government’s Regeneration Fund, this long-awaited phase focuses on delivering a modern, flexible new building and completing improvements across the Market Place — all designed to create a more welcoming, vibrant and accessible space for everyone who lives, works, shops or visits here.

New multi-use building coming soon

A new, purpose-built facility will soon take shape in the Market Place, delivered by Premier Modular. The building will include:

  • Modern public toilets

  • A secure store for market trader equipment

  • Flexible commercial space to support local business and community use

Designed to adapt to a variety of uses, this space will help extend trading hours, host local activities, and better support year-round community engagement.

Final town centre improvements include:

  • Upgraded surfaces throughout the Market Place

  • New lighting, street furniture, and cycle stands

  • Additional tree planting and features to support local biodiversity

  • Improved access and public space

These enhancements will further build on earlier upgrades to bus facilities and access routes, strengthening the connection between transport, shopping, and social space in the town centre.

Shirebrook stays open

The market remains a key part of Shirebrook’s identity — and it will continue to operate as normal during the improvements. To support market days and boost footfall, temporary road closures will be in place (a successful model already used in other Derbyshire towns). Nearby businesses will be kept informed to ensure smooth coordination.

Making Shirebrook more inviting for everyone

This investment is part of a wider £15 million regeneration programme across the district, which also includes:

  • Redevelopment of key buildings in Bolsover

  • Refurbishment of the former church hall in Pinxton

  • A new Green Skills & Retrofit Centre in Shirebrook

Locally led, community-focused

Once completed, the new building and Market Place will be managed by Shirebrook Town Council, keeping local leadership at the heart of this transformation. The goal is clear: to create a space that serves the people of Shirebrook, supports local business, and becomes a lively hub for daily life and future events.

💬 Cllr Jane Yates, Council Leader, said:

“Our town centres are vital to our communities, and we are proud to have secured external investment to deliver this final phase of improvements in Shirebrook. We know this will bring lasting benefits — supporting local trade, attracting more visitors, and helping to reimagine the heart of Shirebrook for generations to come.”
